Does Your Dog Have a Chewing Problem?
Many dog owners have dogs that are misbehaving by chewing everything in sight. You don’t have to put up with it anymore. There are proven methods in which you can teach your pet not to chew. If your puppy or dog does chew things such as slippers, mats, furniture, etc it doesn’t mean that they are angry or unhappy. You have to remember it’s in their nature and they will need to be taught otherwise.
In order to stop them from chewing you need to understand why they are doing it, it may be because of boredom, hunger, loneliness or even dental problems. The first method which can be applied is to buy your dog chew toys and treats as an alternative to the living room chair. You need to praise your dog for doing good things and let them know when they are in the wrong. This is crucial in the early months/years as they are clueless to right and wrong as a puppy. You can usually spot the cause of destructive chewing if you pay attention to them. If they are always hesitant before meals this could indicate that it’s gum problems. This is common in puppies as they are teething but if it’s in an older dog, you would be best seeking advice from a veterinarian in order to stop the suffering your dog has been going through.Make sure that you keep your dog exercised and give him the attention he needs. This alone can prevent chewing just by spending a bit of time with your dog each and every day. Be sure to keep chewable items out of reach and keep your dog under close supervision around the house. If you do have to leave it, be sure that it cannot do any damage to your posessions or to himself.
