Dog Breeds 101: The Rottweiler
The Rottweiler was originally from Germany and goes all the way back to the Roman times when they were used as working dogs. This specific dog is black all over with various shades of tan markings on the chest, cheeks, muzzle, eyebrows and legs.
Rottweilers can be very well trained, reliable and an overall great pet if trained in the proper manner. On the other hand, a poorly trained Rottweiler can be a danger to the general public and even to his owner in certain circumstances. They are known to have a great temperament and are affectionate towards children. Rottweilers are also very intelligent and quick to learn.
Rottweilers can be a very high maintenance dog and they do require lots of attention. If their needs are not satisfied they may resort to alternative methods to keep them occupied, most often they resort to destructive chewing and excessive barking to fill their time. When it comes to barking, male and female Rottweilers react very differently,; males tend to be quiet and observant of everything that’s happening, whereas females bark a lot more to show authority and protect their habitat. A Rottweiler shouldn’t be used as a household pet unless the owner is certain they will be able to control the animal and train it well. Many people tend to go wrong by trying to improve their guarding instinct in order to make them more protective. Rottweilers are naturally protective and they will have excellent guarding instincts without you teaching it to them.
Rottweilers have gained the image of being dangerous to humans being in the last few years as they have been involved in many violent attacks against people in which some have ended fatally. Rottweilers have always been portrayed as evil by such films as the Omen and also with computer games such as the game Resident Evil. Shortly after this the Rottweiler was placed among the ‘index of dangerous dogs list’ which forced them to wear muzzles and always be on a leash when in public.
